This book is excellent in every way! The author uses Scripture plainly to hold a mirror of sorts to ourselves to see if we are truly walking with Christ.The Bible exhorts us to examine ourselves and Raymond Sopp lovingly guides us on that journey in his book. What I enjoyed most about this book was the sweet spirit and love that came through. Though love is apparent, there is absolutely no watering down of the Gospel in this wonderful book!
"The Portrait of a Christian" is an awesome book full of our Lord's truths. Ray Sopp is indeed called of the Lord to minister to others through the sharing of the truth of God in this book. I like the way he tells it like it is.
My heart was truly blessed as I read this book from cover to cover, and have since been able to go back to it for even more blessings.
If you are seeking to know your God and be blessed out of your mind, I highly recommend that you order this book and READ it, and order more for your friends! I highly recommend this book; it is a very useful spiritual tool.

Ray Sopp's book THE PORTRAIT OF A CHRISTIAN is a *magnificent* compilation of insights into various areas of our daily spiritual walk. I had looked forward eagerly to the release of this volume of Ray's teachings, having been blessed for years by his newsletters and by his free tape ministry... but NEVER had I anticipated what an incredible impact PORTRAIT would have on my spiritual life. I'm now on Chapter 29 of 31, and have been blessed beyond words a dozen or more times by "pearls of great price." One such is his teaching that as born-again Christians we have - not "just" a relationship with God, but MORE than that...
we have the adoption of sons into the family of God, with all the rights and privileges (and responsibilities) that that entails. HALLELUJAH!!! What a beautifully basic but often forgotten truth - and THE PORTRAIT OF A CHRISTIAN is full of them. Thank you, Ray, for giving us this truly wonderful book. I have given one copy to a friend, and have another right at hand to lend out. My OWN copy is staying in my personal library. I want it close at hand, because I'll be reading and re-reading it for the rest of my life, and refering to it often.
Bottom line? HIGHLY recommended, both as a gift and as a terrific addition to your own library... but don't be caught dead with it in your home but unread, because it's value is ***between*** its covers. The greatest book in the world can't help you if you don't study it, pray about it, and meditate upon its teachings.
Great history of the early church and how other societies affected and changed what God had intended. Still rereading it.
If you are a 'born again' Christian and want to know how you are doing spiritually, read this book. But I caution you to check your pride at the door. It will challenge you to take a sober assessment of your true spiritual condition. Just as we don't see our hair and nails grow, we can lose sight of our growing pride, self-reliance, and distance from God. This will jolt us back to the reality that we are in constant need of God's grace, mercy, and power. If your spitiual 'walk' has grown boring and routine; if your life isn't filled with joy and producing the fruits of the Spirit, then you NEED this book now!
