Dell Meriwether thought you only got one great love in you life. After losing his partner in a horrible accident, he decided to start over again in Atlanta, Georgia. So far, so good. New job Check. Great circle of friends Check. New love in his life Not so much.
Then one day a black haired, black eyed bundle of energy entered his life and he knew nothing was ever going to be simple or sane again.
Wyatt Billiones was exhausted. A demanding mother and a girlfriend pushing for a ring took up what little time he had when not at work. Meeting a tall, dark man with beautiful blue eyes turned his world upside down and all he wanted to do was kiss him!
Which made no sense since Wyatt was straight....right?
The road to love is never smooth. But seriously, did it have to have so many potholes

I love the characters in this book enough to give it four, or even five, stars. There are so many good things about this book. It is racially and ethnically diverse, the personalities of the lead characters are radically different, and yet complement each other. The amazing depiction of an otherwise "straight" young man finding love and passion with another man for the first time is downright beautiful. But I have recently decided to give extremely low ratings to books that distract you from the plot and characters with endless typos, grammatical errors, incomprehensible sentence fragments and similar failures to edit. I don't know if it's the genre (M/M fiction), the authors (are so many basically illiterate?) or Amazon.com's editing (or non-editing) standards, but the basic quality of so many of the books I read in this category is reprehensible. Perhaps it's self-publishing?
Whatever the cause, the authors and Amazon owe us better. Amazon delivers flawlessly in merchandise, music and video, but delivers embarrassingly poor quality to our Kindles.
"He lay there enjoying the after math." Oh yeah, well how about the after Science or the after English Lit - definitely not the latter.
"He looked down at the man bellow him." - what, was the man screaming up at him?
"He at looked him" - endless misplaced and repeated prepositions.
"He turned a180" - what is that, a highway? Did he turn left or right?
And this author apparently doesn't like commas much, breaking up sentences into fragments:
"Although he was happy. He was also worried".
Not all of these are direct quotes, but each represents multiple examples of egregious editing, page-after-page throughout the book.
It does the author a disservice, because I rather liked the book and might consider buying the whole series. It does the reader a disservice because I paid actual money for this book. And it does nothing for Amazon's reputation.
This has to stop. It is insulting. It seems I do more proofreading of my own reviews than the authors, publishers and Amazon, combined, do of the books I've purchased here in the last few months.
Therefore only 1 star for a book that should have been 4 stars or better.

A Littlebit of Joy Renovating Love Book 1 edition by Mathew Ortiz Mary M Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Another good series. Found this series by accident and I am glad I did. All four have good story-lines, believable characters, and can each stand alone, but are much better if read in order. I liked the guys and their get togethers, squabbles, and new found loves. Quality gay romance, easy reading, and with no picture on the cover it lets your own imagination decide what they look like. Enjoy!
A Littlebit of Joy is book one of a series of books about a group of four men who become friends after buying fixer-upers and becoming neighbors. I really enjoyed the authors ability to paint a picture with words. I completely fell into the story, not only could I see pictures of the characters in my mind I could also see the homes and improvements that were made to them. I really liked that the romance portion of the story evolved as opposed to the fall in love overnight style that seems to frequent this genre. I enjoy books where you can feel the emotional bond and love story develop. The development of the main characters is great and the secondary characters are fully developed as well. There is some good drama and angst but not overly done, with just enough cliffhangers in the plot line so that you know you will see the primary characters in the remaining stories as well. By the time I reach the last page in the final chapter I felt a such connection to the characters, that I can honestly see this little neighborhood existing and these characters being "real" people. Actually I felt such a connection to the characters that I found that author on facebook and begged for crumbs of whats going to happen to them in the next book (not that he was willing to part with insider knowledge) but this is the first time I've read a book where I was even willing to try to follow up. The sex scenes for me were great in that they weren't overdone at the same time they weren't underdone either and didn't consume the storyline (as many books can) it was more about the emotion and building of the relationship. The were well written and had a good flow (for lack of a better term)
As for the technical aspects of writing The author is obviously knowledgeable in the content of what he is writing about (such as nursing, home improvement, etc). Yes there are some grammar, spelling and typo issues. Honestly the quality of the story line, and the descriptive writing style more than made up for it, I am at a loss as to how someone was so fixated on these details that they couldn't enjoy the story. In my opinion that reader truly missed out on an amazing book.
I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the story, and will be adding this author to my must read list. Hopefully my review has done the book justice and as this is my first attempt at writing a book review I appreciate any feedback in making the review itself better (though I refuse to write any spoilers as I don't like reviews that do that).
Very nice story. Liked the fact that it involved another culture. Think more could have been done to play up the whole Filipino angle. It's nice to see a fully fleshed out gay story line. Only one thing to the editor ... next edit make sure you catch ALL the typos ... there were quite a few and for readers like me ... it's a tad distracting. Looking forward to Matt's story for the other 3 men - especially Tye. Oh and you are not easy to find on facebook .. in the book provide a direct link for us poor saps so we can like you.
So, I've been set down the path to M/M books by a few of my female straight friends. As a gay man, I never thought I'd actually read these kind of books but here I am.
And this one had me laughing.
Ass camping? I will have to add that one to my repertoire.
The story of Dell and Wyatt is actually sweet. I liked the supporting characters, (Cormac reminds me of a guy I work with).
Wasn't a big fan of the meddling mom, but Wyatt got his man in the end. I love that men are writing these novels and I've actually read a few written by women that were very well done. I like my men to be men. Not sappy, weeping shells of men. I love a sweaty man, I love a hairy man. Hell, I just love men.
There were a few grammatical issues, but nothing that took me out of the book. All in all, well written and extremely funny. Thank you, Mr Ortiz. I can tell that one friend she did a good job with this recommendation.
